Good Thing I Read Fast

All sorts of blogs (including this one) are posting about all of the books they read in 2008 and how many books they want to read in 2009. I don't have a number but I do have a list of books that I would really like to pickup and read. I read 35+ books between May and December 2008 and have no idea how many more I read before May. I'm assuming I'll read probably about that many in this year so here's a list of 20 I hope get read sometime. If you've heard any of these aren't worth reading (or you've read them yourself) I'd love any feedback.
  1. The Glass Castle by Jeanette Wells
  2. Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
  3. Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin
  4. Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
  5. Princess Academy by Shannon Hale
  6. First book (and maybe all) in the Circle Trilogy by Ted Dekker
  7. Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacob
  8. A Passion Redeemed by Julie Lessman
  9. Remember by Karen Kingsbury
  10. On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan
  11. Remember Me by Sophie Kinsella
  12. The Road by Cormac McCarthy
  13. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
  14. Songs for the Missing by Stewart O'Nan
  15. Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout
  16. Goldengrove byFrancine Prose
  17. The House on Fortune Street by Margot Livesay
  18. The German Bride by Joanna Hershon
  19. Breath by Tim Winton
  20. The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie
What's on your list for this year?

  1. I read on average a book a week, what normally slows me down is lack of new ones or work, i keep the bulk of what i read and with my bad memory can normally reread them after a year and not remember the plot.

  2. I just read the Lovely Bones, and although the ending dragged out a little bit, I really recommend it!

  3. The Glass Castle is pretty good, and Thousand Splendid Suns and The Circle Trilogy are excellent and are a few of the books that I most often recommend. I don't think you'll be able to stop at just the first book of the Circle Trilogy, though!

The only other one on your least I've read is The Road which I didn't care for. It's a really quick read though, so if you're interested, check it out. There's got to be some reason why so many people recommend it, but I haven't figured out what it is.

  4. I personally thought The Lovely Bones was really bad, I'd probably give it two stars. But I've never met anyone else that disliked it. I thought The Road was good. It may not be a fun read, but I think it's an important philosophical study of human nature. Right now I'm reading a biography of Elizabeth I that Jacki sent me, then I'm reading Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett.

  7. The Circle trilogy is on my to read list this year also. I recently toured a graphic novel from the set of books that comes after the circle trilogy that intrigued me. :)

  8. I pick up maybe 5 to 6 books a year to read, but I got a copy of Kiss by Ted Dekker and Erin Healy. It is I have to say a great read. Dekker’s work is always good but with first time author Healy, this book is outstanding. I had to make myself put it down because I was not doing any work at my office (I was getting stares from my coworkers). The website for the book is http://www.thelostkiss.com/buzz

  9. Quite a breadth! I teach graduate students in a MFA program and we are reading The Glass Castle now as a group. I really like it when half the students love a book and half think it is useless. That's the case with this book for my group. Diversity is not a PC myth. We really do have different tastes and reading and writing styles. Thanks God for that.

  10. Glass Castle was okay, not my favorite but a lot of people love it so...hope you like it!
Nanny Diaries is fluff but not bad fluff. Same thing with Remember Me.
    The Book Thief is AMAZING.
And I'll be depending on the opinions of others for the rest of the books...several of these are on my to-read list, but since that list has something like 250 books on it...it might be awhile before I get to them! =)
    Happy Reading!
