Dark Pursuit is the story of a washed-up, worn-down famous suspense thriller novelist and his granddaughter. Though he has an estranged relationship with her, she comes to him when she finds a dead body in her apartment. The rest of the book the two of them and his editor-turned-nurse try to figure out how to catch the killer without going to the cops, as all the evidence will point to the granddaughter.
This is a decently enjoyable book for a light read (though most of my light reads don't involve murder!). The downside was that I didn't appreciate how Christianity seemed to be shoved onto the story awkwardly. It's not that I don't think Christianity is relevant, I just don't know that it was redeeming in the story. Really, I think you could substitute any religious system in its place and the story would still have worked.

It sounds interesting, although I'm chuckling at the idea that the first thing I'd do when I find a dead body in my house is run to an estranged family member. I'm sure there's a logical reason for that, though. I love a good mystery. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway--sounds like an interesting book-maybe a little odd, but I would still love to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI feel like anyone who's ever had an editor must scoff at the idea of an editor-turned-nurse, but just the kind of whacky development that kind of makes me interested. I could definitely use a fun, light read. Thanks for the chance at winning!

ReplyDeleteSounds different but I could use some light reading that isn't a funky romance. I can't picture finding it amusing.

Definitely an odd (and almost youthful-sounding) plot. But heck, I love to read, and if I can win a book, I'll definitely read it. And then pass it on. If you pick me, you can reach me at dmj53(at)hotmail(dot)com
