I have a love-hate relationship with Nicholas Sparks books. I love his writing style; I love his characters; I hate the endings. Every one of his books have made me cry, but the endings have really upset me. Why do the people have to break up or die in every single book? What does he have against happy endings? It got to the point that I wouldn't read Nicholas Sparks books anymore. I was boycotting them for breaking my heart at the end every time.
This book was very much the typical Nicholas Sparks book. I really liked the characters, and even had a bit of a crush on Travis Parker, the main character. When he first tells Gabby he loves her, I cried. When I found out what choice Travis had to make, I cried. At the end of the book, I cried too. However, Nicholas Sparks has redeemed himself in my eyes. For once, I did not hate the ending. I loved it.

I've never read this book, but the Notebook (the book and the movie) made me cry. :-)

ReplyDeleteI've really no interest in reading any of his books, but your comment about disliking his endings made me laugh. I have seen 2 of the movies (A Walk to Remember and The Notebook), and I greatly disliked the latter. I also didn't "get" what was sad about it...they died in each others' arms, what more could they want? They were old, it wasn't like they were going to live another 50 years together. I'm sorry, I just don't have an appreciation for it.
