I read on average a book a week, what normally slows me down is lack of new ones or work, i keep the bulk of what i read and with my bad memory can normally reread them after a year and not remember the plot.
ReplyDeleteI just read the Lovely Bones, and although the ending dragged out a little bit, I really recommend it!
ReplyDeleteThe Glass Castle is pretty good, and Thousand Splendid Suns and The Circle Trilogy are excellent and are a few of the books that I most often recommend. I don't think you'll be able to stop at just the first book of the Circle Trilogy, though!
ReplyDeleteThe only other one on your least I've read is The Road which I didn't care for. It's a really quick read though, so if you're interested, check it out. There's got to be some reason why so many people recommend it, but I haven't figured out what it is.
I personally thought The Lovely Bones was really bad, I'd probably give it two stars. But I've never met anyone else that disliked it. I thought The Road was good. It may not be a fun read, but I think it's an important philosophical study of human nature. Right now I'm reading a biography of Elizabeth I that Jacki sent me, then I'm reading Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett.

ReplyDelete2. Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold DON'T BOTHER
3. Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin BEACH
The Circle trilogy is on my to read list this year also. I recently toured a graphic novel from the set of books that comes after the circle trilogy that intrigued me. :)
ReplyDeleteI pick up maybe 5 to 6 books a year to read, but I got a copy of Kiss by Ted Dekker and Erin Healy. It is I have to say a great read. Dekker’s work is always good but with first time author Healy, this book is outstanding. I had to make myself put it down because I was not doing any work at my office (I was getting stares from my coworkers). The website for the book is http://www.thelostkiss.com/buzz
ReplyDeleteQuite a breadth! I teach graduate students in a MFA program and we are reading The Glass Castle now as a group. I really like it when half the students love a book and half think it is useless. That's the case with this book for my group. Diversity is not a PC myth. We really do have different tastes and reading and writing styles. Thanks God for that.
ReplyDeleteGlass Castle was okay, not my favorite but a lot of people love it so...hope you like it!
ReplyDeleteNanny Diaries is fluff but not bad fluff. Same thing with Remember Me.
The Book Thief is AMAZING.
And I'll be depending on the opinions of others for the rest of the books...several of these are on my to-read list, but since that list has something like 250 books on it...it might be awhile before I get to them! =)
Happy Reading!
I've read 2 ,5,and 7- 2 was disturbing but well written, 5 was fun and 7 just light reading
