Giveaway: Dream in Color by Linda and Loretta Sanchez

Given the politics of this special time of year, it was the perfect time to read a book by two congresswomen and their journey to becoming the first pair of sisters to serve in Congress.

I had a lot of misgivings when I first picked up this book as I saw that the foreward was written by Nancy Pelosi. I was afraid that this book would be too political. Though I wouldn't agree with the Sanchez sisters on many policy issues, they did a good job for the most part leaving politics out of it.

I thoroughly enjoyed their stories about how they work in the House of Representatives. It almost made me want to run for office. The Sanchez sisters, daughters of immigrants, have struggled with prejudice against Hispanics and against women. They were willing to put in the effort to overcome these obstacles and seek to make a difference for the causes they felt worth fighting for.

This is a quick, enjoyable read for anyone even remotely interested in politics or social issues. I really liked to read the many stories from their childhood.

This giveaway is now closed. I'll leave comments open in order to discuss the book.

  3. I like that it just brushes lightly over the politics. That's just enough for me and I would enjoy the childhood and family stories as well.
